Imphal, January 08 2009: THE RELAY hunger strike launching with the voice "Save Sharmila" organized by the Sharmila Kanba Lup has completed one month Thursday.

The relay hunger strike has been continuing since December 10 last year with a public discussion on the AFSPA Act and the impact of the Act during three decades of its imposition in the state.

Many public leaders and experts had expressed their opinion on the need of repeal of the Act.

Today also DESAM advisor L Romen who spoke on the Act says other states of the country make act and enforce acts and ban killing of animals and birds and take up steps to protect them.

But in total contrast with it, in Manipur, government is enforcing the act which empowers the security forces to kill people.

Till AFSPA which empowers the security force to killed people is enforcing in the state, many people will killed with unexplained circumstances.

So, he says there has come the time to struggle by the people collectively together to remove the Act from the state.

AMSU president Khamba Laishram so also spoke on the occasion says "We the people of the state could not live in peace because of the AFSPA".

The deployment of the armed security forces from outside with the imposition of the AFSPA has also caused unrestness in the state, he added.

On its 30th day of relay hunger strike carrying out at Porompat PDA complex today volunteers of Porompat Muslim Women Development Association fasted for the day.
